When the summer heat rolls in it is imperative to provide congenial workplace environments to ensure the comfort of staff and their productivity.
And of course, the best time to improve workplace conditions is to be prepared and ready before the hot uncomfortable summer days arrive.
Warragul Victoria power machinery sales and service business VC Traders and Warragul Equipment Hire has acted in this way with their general manager Dean Addison investing in two Silvan FC Evaporative Coolers during the “winter off season”.
Dean’s businesses specialise in sales and service of an extensive branded range of popular garden and outdoor powered equipment.
Through the Warragul Equipment Hire division an extensive equipment range is also available for hire including small excavators and stump grinders.
Consequently, an active service workshop is the backbone of both activities.
Dean Addison says “we currently have a staff of ten with our workshop housed in an older style enclosed brick building which is certainly not the ideal workplace on hot summer days”.
He was impressed by a demonstration of one of the Silvan FC Evaporative Air Conditioners “so I thought during the quieter months I would invest in two units sufficient to cover the floor area and layout of the workshop”.
Dean has now purchased and installed two Silvan FC units and says he and his staff are now looking forward to the arrival of summer.
One unit the Silvan FC400 model is recommended to cool an area of 30 to 50 sqm with a maximum airflow of 9,000 m3 per hour, while the higher capacity FC440 is recommended for a floor area of 70 to 100 square metres as its maximum airflow is 12,000 m3 per hour.
The Recommended Retail Price of the FC400 unit is $799 incl GST, while the larger FC440 retails at $1,149 incl GST.
Both units are essentially the same being mains powered with a quiet running electric motor being either 400 or 440 watts and a 70-litre capacity water tank.
The internal water tank can be filled by a bucket or be mains supply or external water tank connected and each has a water level sensor to advise when the internal storage is low, while water consumption is in the range of 10 to 20 litres per hour.
Each unit has a three-speed adjustable fan with a remote controller plus a timer function for auto-start or finish and a liquid site level indicator.
Each unit is housed in a heavy-duty poly construction cabinet fitted with four swivel wheels, two of which can be locked in position.
Silvan Australia’s merchandise manager Michael Frost says that the Silvan FC Series of Evaporative Air Conditioners provide the ideal cooling solutions and comfort for shearing sheds, farm machinery sheds or workshops as well as retail areas, outdoor events, marquees, or patios.
The FC series Air Conditioners are simple to put in place requiring only a mains power connection and a water source, with a range of control functions and weigh only 36kg for the FC400, or 43kg for the higher capacity FC440 model.
“Every summer we experience a rush for these coolers as soon as the weather warms up so the sensible approach is to have one in place ahead of the season” Michael Frost says.
