Supaflo 2000 Litre Airblast with APS121 pump Product Name:
Olive tree grower Phillip Bassett says the Silvan Supaflo air blast sprayer provides excellent coverage and thorough penetration on his 20 hectare grove at Hillsborough, via Maitland in NSW.
“The Supaflo penetrates the foliage apron of the tree well, getting onto the underside of the leaves and into the middle of the crown of the tree,” Mr Bassett said.
“It’s very effective,” he added. Mr Bassett bought the olive grove in late 2002 and the 2000 litre Silvan Supaflo came with the property. He hopes to harvest between 10 and 12 tonnes of olives in 2004 (the trees are relatively young).
There are four varieties of olives grown on Mr Bassett’s property; Frantoio, Correggiolo, Nevadillo Blanco and a table olive Kalamata. Most will be used for the production of fine quality olive oil for niche markets.
Apart from the Supaflo’s ability to thoroughly cover all parts of the tree canopy, Mr Bassett says he is also impressed with the unit’s capacity and easy adjustment.
“The nozzles are very easy to adjust for different spraying rates and they are easily accessible.”
“I also like the manoeuvrability of the Supaflo, which makes it easy to turn around at the end of the tree rows. Plus its low centre of gravity makes it ideal for use on undulating ground and slopes, which we have on the property. Adding to the sprayer’s stability are its wide tyres, useful on soft ground.”
Mr Bassett said he would look seriously at buying another Silvan Supaflo sprayer, but he doubts he will have to do that for a long time.
“The Supaflo is extremely well made and obviously a lot of consideration has gone into its design. It’s very well thought out ergonomically.”
