Design & Technology

Designed in Australia / Worldwide Technology

Silvan has its own design and technology centre at the Wantirna office in Melbourne, employing the latest in CAD technology to design, test and prototype new products. Products are designed in consultation with growers to ensure they meet demanding Australian conditions.

The company works closely with agricultural colleges, universities and research institutions throughout Australia.

Skill sets within the design and technology division include mechanical and industrial engineers, agricultural scientists and industrial designers. To keep up with the latest in world trends Silvan regularly attends overseas exhibitions to monitor new technologies and processes.

Silvan designs are adaptable, distinctive, modern, and reflect a more refined and advanced approach to chemical application. Silvan machines showcase functional and strongly aesthetic designs that exceed market expectations.

Solidworks is the CAD program used by the R&D team to conceptualise and test new product designs.

If new tanks are being designed, tools need to be designed and fabricated. The first stage of the tank tooling process is the fabrication of the wooden plug.

The next stage in the process is fibreglassing. Through a local supplier, the fibreglassing process utilises the high quality Rycol system, a German produced non-shrink fibreglass resin.

The tools for the new machine are either aluminium casts or sheet metal tools, depending on the size and features of the tank required

.

Once the tank tooling has been completed and first tank shots have been run, a prototype is built and tested in-field.

The feedback from this testing is fed back into the development of the product. The product is then ready for release, and for production.
